Dr. Kees J. Lucas

Kees (Amsterdam, 1944) holds a PhD in medicine and has completed management training at IMD, Lausanne. He worked as scientist in immunological research (autoimmunity, vaccines, cancer immunotherapy, transplantation) at the research center of the Dutch Blood transfusion service (Now Sanquin). Later he was executive director for a contract research organization (TNO). In the over 200 FTE institute he was responsible for research in infectious diseases, immunotherapy, neurodevelopment and industrial molecular biology. For the Dutch government he was member of the Health Council and he represented The Netherlands in UN conferences on de-armament and biological weapons. He was closely involved in worldwide activities around children vaccines (CVI, later GAVI). In these periods he was an opinion leader on Multiple Sclerosis. From 1998 till 2004 Kees was part-time professor in Neuroimmunology at the Amsterdam University.

Kees joined Biogen January 2000. He left BiogenIdec, where he was senior director international corporate development, after 5 years to become an independent consultant for the biotech industry. For Biogen he created a large number of research alliances. He also was closely involved in, often responsible for, several high profile deals.

Kees is a non-executive director of 3 biotech companies. He works as consultant - mainly in business development – for several European biotech companies. Kees also works for several VC’s and investment banks and coaches CEO’s of small biotech companies.
